Rwanda - Soya, Sorghum, and Maize

Other versions of this article : Français
Sosoma is both the name of a highly nutritional food product, and of a new Rwandan company. Up to November 2008, Sosoma was a production unit belonging to the association Duhamic-Adri, partner of Frères des Hommes. Today, Sosoma has become a public limited company in which Duhamic-Adri is still a large shareholder.

A large part of Sosoma’s profits go to financing the activities of Duhamic-Adri, which supports local initiatives in the Rwandan countryside, thus guaranteeing its financial independence.

Now equipped with an independent structure, Sosoma is looking to expand its opportunities. Its main product is a flour, rich in protein and extremely nutritious: its could be used to reinforce the fight against infant malnutrition, for vulnerable people, or even for AIDS sufferers. For local peasants, mainly those who Dumamic-Adri supports in the development of farming activities, it represents an opportunity to sell their produce. Moreover, by creating jobs for the processing of this produce, Sosoma actively participates in the development of Rwanda’s rural economy.
