Imre is an artist and a photography and graphic design graduate from Estonia. As an active member of the Estonian association EstYes where young people meet for cultural exchanges, he enrolled in “Hemispheres”. He is searching for diversity, hoping to discover international solidarity, as well as tools for community activities that would help him " talk to different people from different backgrounds ".
The August training session dealt with decent work conditions. Imre was especially moved by the plight of Indian workers, particularly following the presentations of Duarte Barreto from the Indian association Fedina, a Frères des Hommes partner. He chose this as the core issue of the media mobilisation campaign he organised on his return to his country.
He created illustrations, caricatures and drawings, and then got in touch with several journalists and artists, including the Estonian national press, to have his caricatures published. For Imre, an illustration is a very powerful tool for conveying a message: "Normally only 20% of persons will read an article, but if you add a drawing many more people will be drawn to reading it. "
He has uploaded all his illustrations onto a purpose-built blog (click on the icons below to view his drawings). He urges viewers to consume less and with greater clarity. To " facilitate the exchange of information on international solidarity ", he has made his illustrations accessible to all: " These pictures are free to use! ", says the blog. "Indeed, these images and caricatures should not only be informative but also amusing, relevant and accessible to all. I really want them to have an impact and help strengthen international solidarity."
The "Hemispheres"’ project is conducted with funding from the European Union.
