Development Projects

Because, as actors of change, we seek to eradicate the very causes of poverty among vulnerable populations, we organize our work in support of long-term projects lasting several years. All the projects of Frères des Hommes are undertaken with partner organizations from different countries in the Global South. These projects are subject to preliminary planning and budgeting. Their progress is subsequently followed closely. Frères des Hommes contributes specifically through fundraising activities, which in turn provide the necessary financing to complete the projects. The support of financial donors contributes directly to the success of the projects and provides the means by which Frères des Hommes can financially support its partners directly. This partner support takes on different forms: the providing of volunteers, staff engagement to obtain complementary funding from public institutions, help in the formalization of projects, and logistical support.

Training of Our Young People in International Solidarity

For Frères des Hommes, its activities in the training of young people in international solidarity enriches the partnerships between the Global North and Global South, recognizes our shared knowledge in these regions, and fosters our responsibility vis-a-vis our youth.

The training programs that we support encourage our youth to confront real life situations that take place in the Global North and the Global South, to deconstruct the reasons for poverty and exclusion, and to develop projects and teaching materials capable of changing a point of view and provoking personal mobilization. These programs provide to our young people the keys that allow them to participate fully in finding solutions in constructing a just world.

For example, within the framework of the training session entitled "Hemispheres", 60 young people each year receive training from our partners about the challenges of solidarity development and then have the opportunity to organize public events. Our program "Résonances" trains young interns in the areas of citizenship and solidarity.

Information

In our society now known as the "information society", it is key to the vitality of our shared project and our engagement as citizens that Frères des Hommes continues to provide information that permits the greatest number of people to share in our hopes and values. Two communication media are provided by Frères des Hommes to inform the larger public about our activities, our results, and our partners’ initiatives: (1) the Internet site www.fdh.org and its newsletter, and (2) the journal "Témoignages et Dossiers" ("Testimony and Dossiers"), to which you may subscribe free of charge.

Consciousness Raising and Mobilization Campaigns

Frères des Hommes educates and sensitizes the public about the worldwide implications of solidarity development. With the participation of volunteers and activists, these consciousness-raising campaigns underscore the solidarity values of our organization. Throughout the year, Frères des Hommes teams organize events and public demonstrations to raise consciousness and to promote the projects and activities of Frères des Hommes.

For example, in the framework of the campaign Globalize Our Solidarity, Frères des Hommes permitted citizens, farmers and activists from the Global North and the Global South to come together in support of better food supplies and enduring agriculture everywhere in the world.
