In the central region, the town of Hinche, home of the MPP headquarters, was severely flooded by the Guayamunc river. 3,000 people made homeless by the floods have been sheltered in makeshift centers (three public schools made available for that purpose) and 1,000 others have found refuge with relatives or friends. The MPP has decided to help 105 families financially, by handing out grants of between 1,000 and 2,252 gourdes (between €20 and €45) to meet their most pressing needs. 50 children have also received 1,500 gourdes (about €30) to buy new text books and school uniforms.
The MPP, which is committed to agro-ecological activities and protecting the environment, has called on the government to take measures to prevent disasters. Indeed, if the country does not enthusiastically engage in reforestation and environmental development, tropical storms and cyclones will keep ravaging Haiti at regular intervals.
