2008 saw several crises all over the world: economic and financial crises, food crises, environmental crises. According to international experts, these crises will intensify in 2009, with disastrous effects on the very poor, who are the first victims.

2009 represents a real challenge in solidarity for Frères des Hommes: we must intensify our efforts to give the most destitute the means to face already dramatic situations of poverty.

The solutions that we create every day are for the long term. Whereas crises are very often sudden, the economic and social development of poor populations is a long-term project, carried out by the local partner organizations that work with these populations.

Over the years, we learned that solutions are sustainable only if the populations themselves implement them. They are the only true shield against crises and the only means of changing durably the lives of the poorest.

By fostering food crop production, putting the economy back in the service of men and reinforcing human rights, Frères des Hommes and its partners help to lift populations out of poverty.
