If you were in charge of eradicating global poverty, where would you start? "I would start by cutting military budgets in order to help starving populations." (Catherine) "I would tax every purchase and give that sum to the poorest countries." (Maxime) "I would start by better distributing developed countries’ money, to give more to the countries that need it most." (Marie)

France - Youth, Europe and the World

Here are some of the answers given by young Europeans who, between November and June, commented on the role and responsibilities for Europe in the fight against global poverty. Meetings with young people were part of a work programme carried out by Frères des Hommes and the international accomodation center Fiap Jean Monnet in order to promote civic expression by young Europeans about the fight against poverty. Their testimonies were put together in a blog.

The exhibition was the starting point of a series of public events that took place in early December 2008 and gave young Europeans the opportunity to meet our partners from Haiti (Mouvement paysan Papaye), Rwanda (Adenya) and the Czech Republic (People in need). In the Fiap Jean Monnet, in the international Ciarus Centre in Strasbourg, young high-school and university students were able to confront their visions of the world and of international solidarity with those who actually build it day after day. By presenting the activities they conduct every day in their country, Moslin Saintilmon, Philifrant St-Nare, Gabriel Nkuliyimana and Martina Hurdova demonstrated that solutions to fight poverty do exist. The young people shared their feelings and offered suggestions regarding international solidarity. Our guests were also able to talk live on Vivre FM radio and to express their commitment to the audience.
