By providing students with information and suggesting activities on modern subjects that interest them, such as ecology, development and democratic participation, this programme brings a breath of fresh air to the country’s educational system.
The programme has been on air for the last 8 years and has had more than 4000 participants. The recent 3-year cycle of activities, an educational project called “World School” has helped train 300 teachers from 10 schools in the country. These teachers created pedagogical tools that would help students act as ‘middlemen’ of knowledge between their school and the "other end of the world", that is, the Southern block countries, about which they know nothing or next to nothing. The students also got into the act: some have put in place a set of criteria for certifying Czech schools “World Schools” to indicate their involvement in sustainable development. Others organized a conference on the impact of climatic change on developing countries and invited experts and a sizeable public to join.
