Rights for the Voiceless

Even today, there are many countries where certain populations live in segregation. Reasons for this are sometimes ethnic, sometimes religious and sometimes both. In each case, these are disguised forms of economic and political domination based on real and imaginary differences between human beings. By defending their fundamental rights and through all their actions, Freres des Hommes and its partners affirm the equality of all human beings and support populations that are oppressed or discriminated against in their non-violent struggle against the violence to which they are subject. This is the case in India, where the untouchables or outcasts do not enjoy equal rights because they are considered impure in the eyes of Hinduism. It is also the case in various other countries, such as Indonesia, the Phillipines and Pakistan, where the way of life, culture and rights of tribal populations, which in fact contribute to the richness of humanity, are often trampled upon by the majority such that the very survival of these communities are threatened.
