Janadesh / Land Rights

Janadesh (« the People’s Choice »), is a March organised by our partner Ekta Parishad, to promote the right to land and other natural resources (water, plant seeds…) for the poorest populaces, to have the means to live and work with respect, dignity and self-esteem.

From October 2 to 28, 2007, 25 000 rural people (landless peasants, farm labourers, members of Human Rights organisations …) crossed by foot the 350 Km from Gwalior to New Delhi. These thousands of Indian citizens responded non-violently to the scores of violent situations they are obliged to face each day – discriminations, physical attacks, indecent working conditions (eventually slavery), the devastation of entire villages etc.
