Disarmament to Combat Poverty

Disarmament to combat poverty is an international campaign expressing the following needs: a desire to :

  • Involve all countries of the North and South in the necessary effort to fulfil their commitments in the fight against poverty
  • Restrict the activation of nationalist and community antagonisms and thus halt the arms race resulting from these antagonisms
  • Unite citizens in a common goal, of fighting together against poverty and precarity, accepting together the challenge of social justice

More than 70 organizations, from 20 countries worldwide have already signed the Appeal to Ban Ki-Moon, Secretary-General of the UN, proposing the 10% Option: a conversion of 10% of military budgets to social development investments.

In Bangalor, citizens disarm the Aero India show

Over 200 Indian citizens, mainly led by Fedina, partner of Frères des Hommes, demonstrated at the arms forum of the Aero India Show. This salon, held in Bangalor last February, gathered Indian and international aeronautical companies with the intent to sign lucrative armaments deals with the Indian government.
