Collectives of Economic Actors
At a time when the ultra-liberal theory that governs global economy is faltering, we find the confirmation of the irrelevance and moral illegitimacy of one of its basic assumptions: the primacy of the individual over the collective. The economy, however, which understands the production of goods and services and not its money flow, is not and has never been the affair of isolated individuals. It is made possible by various collaborations between workers, between firms, within networks and with governments, to set up local and regional development, for example. All this implies that these collaborations be organized and run on a collective level, on the basis of the organizations’ ability to make proposals, to negotiate, etc. This is what Frères des Hommes and its partners support by promoting collective action with economic initiatives: craftsmen’s associations, trade unions and agricultural cooperatives. These different types of associations allow their members to take part in the process of defining production and distribution modes that take into account both the individual and society’s needs and expectations. Thus, the economy becomes once again a field for civic action and the realization of general interest.
